The URA announced the start of the redevelopment of the "Nah Tsin Wai Road / Carpenter Road" project in Kowloon City, with more than $15 billion set aside to implement the plan in the next 10 years.

Au Junhao, director of planning and design of the Urban Renewal Authority, said today (1st) that the authorities had previously sent to the district to understand the frozen population survey work and the current situation of the district in order to understand the residents' vision.

At present, the merchants mainly have two wishes, including the hope of returning to the original site to operate, and the hope that there will be a transitional arrangement during the reconstruction period so that they can continue to operate. After collecting the relevant data, they will conduct interviews with the merchants.

Au Junhao attended Hong Kong and Taiwan's "Millennium" and said that the reconstruction plan involves three parts and has been carried out in stages.

The first project currently underway is the new government complex, which is expected to be completed in 2023.

Other projects need to be purchased and relocated after the launch. It is hoped that after the reconstruction, the community will have more small streets and small shops, pedestrian streets, green corridors, and the most important thing is to create a small street food culture area.

Part of the land in Carpenter Road Park on the northern site of the redevelopment project will be relocated to the Kowloon City Market, or the neighborhood may lose recreational facilities.

Ou Junhao pointed out that the green space of the park is only in the north of the community, and he hopes to bring the green space to the south after reconstruction and increase the space by 1.5 times.

It is also hoped that the park will be "multi-purpose" by adding jogging tracks and cycling tracks.

The reason for choosing this park to reset the Kowloon City Market is to hope that the Kowloon City Market is "not too far away" from the original site.

As for the redevelopment, there will be more pedestrian roads and fewer vehicular roads. Will it cause traffic congestion?

Ou Junhao said that after a traffic assessment, this situation will not happen.

Take Yau Ma Tei and Mong Kok as examples. Although there are many vehicle roads in the two places, there will be circling and illegal parking. Therefore, it is hoped that the unnecessary vehicle roads will be used as pedestrian roads to solve the traffic problem.

When asked about the financial burden of the URA, Au Chun-ho said that the URA will prudently manage its finances and submit one- and five-year development plans to the Financial Secretary every year.
